Since its establishment, the Paballong Centre has emphasised environmental sustainability in all its operations. It uses solar energy for pumping water from its borehole, for electric power and for water heating. But the batteries used in solar power systems don’t last forever, and in 2013 the original ones reached the end of their life.
With generous assistance from a private donor, Paballong UK Trust was able to support the purchase of a new set of batteries. This may sound like a mundane item to be funding, but it made a vital contribution to keeping the Centre’s running costs down and reducing Paballong’s environmental footprint.
